Creating Artistic Video Walls: Unleash Your Creative Vision

August 8, 2023

Video walls have transformed from traditional displays to captivating installations that redefine visual experiences. While standard video walls have uniform screens in a grid pattern, artistic video walls allow for limitless creativity. These installations use various display models at different angles to create a dramatic and captivating effect. In this guide, we'll explore how to make an artistic video wall using innovative components like the Just Add Power Ultra HD over IP system and the VBS-HDIP-737POE 3G Warp Engine Transmitter.

Harnessing the Power of the Warp Engine: A Gateway to Creativity

The VBS-HDIP-737POE 3G Warp Engine Transmitter is the heart of artistic video walls in the Just Add Power ecosystem. This device opens up a world of possibilities by letting you warp video walls at angles from 0 to 359.9 degrees. With real-time rotation in 0.1-degree steps, the Warp Engine lets you dynamically rotate HDMI sources seamlessly within a Just Add Power matrix. This rotation happens with very low latency, making it suitable for various uses.

One impressive feature of the Warp Engine is its capability to transform any HDMI source, including cable boxes, media players, cameras, and gaming systems. This rotated image can be sent to countless receivers across the network. This enables you to create large artistic video walls of any size using just one Warp Engine. For more complex designs with multiple rotation angles, you can add more Warp Engines to achieve the desired effect.

Simplifying the Creation Process

Crafting an artistic video wall with Just Add Power is surprisingly simple and requires minimal equipment. Armed with a tape measure, protractor, and access to the Just Add Power web interface, you can bring your creative vision to life. Let's go through the process using an example of a pinwheel video wall with four displays.

1. Mounting and Rotating Displays:

Start by mounting your displays at the desired rotation angle, like 45 degrees. Since Just Add Power receivers can rotate video in 90-degree steps, you only need one Warp Engine transmitter for this setup.

2. Measuring Canvas Size:

Measure the wall size, treating the displays as if they weren't rotated, to determine the canvas size. Measure width and height, considering the left-most and right-most viewable pixels.

3. Measuring Individual Displays:

Measure the viewable width and height of each display, excluding frames. Also, find the left and top offsets, which are the distances from canvas edges to display pixels.

4. Clockwise Rotation Angles:

Note the clockwise rotation angle for each display, relative to the aligned canvas. In this example, angles could be 0, 90, 180, and 270 degrees.

5. Configuration and Scaling:

Apply the measurements to each receiver, ensuring they zoom into their designated canvas area.
